About GLP-1 medications
What GLP-1 medications actually do.
GLP-1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide and tirzepatide mimic a hormone your gut releases after eating. They slow how quickly the stomach empties and act on appetite signaling in the brain, which can make it easier to eat in a way that supports your goals.
They are prescription medications with real risks and side effects, including nausea, constipation and, uncommonly, more serious events. They are not appropriate for everyone, and they work alongside nutrition, movement and sleep — not instead of them.
